Cassation Court orders compensation for Bolzaneto victims

The Cassation Court has ordered compensation be paid immediately to the victims of violence in the Bolzaneto barracks during the days that followed the 2001 G8 held in Genoa. In the appeals case, judges had applied the statute of limitations to most of the crimes with which defendants had been charged (out of 44 only 7 had been sentenced) but also ruled that compensation be paid to anyone who had suffered violence. The 150 people involved had been waiting for compensation from the 44 charged which included police officers, Carabinieri, and doctors, as well as from the Interior Ministry, Defence Ministry the Justice Ministry for years. Compensation is thought to amount to aost 10 million euro including legal fees.
