Police put final G20 arrest tally at 83

Pittsburgh public safety officials say 83 people were arrested at protests and other events during the Group of 20 summit and about $A58,000 in property was damaged.

Police say a man who smashed windows at a Citizens Bank branch in the city's Oakland section was responsible for $US20,000 in damage.

Police chief Nate Harper and public safety director Michael Huss on Friday praised law enforcement officers for their handling of events related to the G20 meeting of leaders from the world's richest countries.

Riot police watched as a noisy but peaceful group of several thousand people marched for miles through downtown Pittsburgh on Friday, the last day of the summit.

Huss said the city was beginning to take down barricades and reopen roads to traffic. This should be finished by Saturday, he said.

The entire downtown area had been blocked off.
