Activist meeting against the “European security architecture”

European security politics of the last twenty years has increased the potency of social and state control in a prodigious manner. New technologies, legislations, techniques and doctrines were established in the middle of the judicial, police and military apparatuses. The forces of control are merging, while the fronts of struggle are multiplicated.

Conflicts did not miss of course. From popular neighbourhoods to video surveillance, “border management” and "e-borders“, databases, control of telecommunication, new DNA or biometric technologies, satellites and flying cameras, blocking of websites, repression of militants, migrants, “crowd control” at summit protests or alternative cultures as the free parties, the hold of state control stretched.

But resistance is too punctual, located and specific to succeed. Very rare are the initiatives which managed, from demonstrations to direct actions, from meetings to judicial procedures, from speech to riots, to find a long-lasting echo among the population and to really prevent the march towards the control society.

There are many struggles and many actors of those struggles, but there is very little space for meetings and only little convergence.

But there is a need to find a common understanding of the changes regarding the “European security architecture”. Surveillance and control are shifting towards preventive, proactive, preemptive repression. New legislations, guidelines and treaties should help the European Union becoming an own state with more power and institutions, such as the “Treaty of Lisbon” or the “Stockholm Programme”, that should develop guidelines for the next five years of western security politics. The EU wants to set up a new “strategy of security”.

Such is the paradox of the security subject: on the questions of security, new technologies, repression, control of migration and public liberties, the attack is transverse, but the resistance is both generalized and split up.

We are calling for the creation of a convergence for resistance through meetings and political campaigns. We want to try to bring together the struggles from different countries and spectrums.

A group of six anarchists arrested under suspicion being connected with Black Elijah (Crni Ilija), which took responsibility for the 24th August molotov attack on the Greek embassy in Belgrade.

The anarchists are members of the Sindikalna konfederacija Anarho-sindikalistička inicijativa (Union Confederation Anarcho-Syndicalist Initiative) which is affiliated to the International Workers’ Association (IWA-AIT). The IWA-AIT Secretariat has made the following statement:

Am Morgen des 3.9.2009 verhaftete die serbische Polizei vier GenossInnen der Anarhosindikalisticka inicijativa“ (ASI-IAA). Die uns bisher bekannten Umstände lassen einen umfassenden Kriminalisierungsversuch befürchten.

Am Donnerstag Morgen versuchte die Polizei in Belgrad zwei Hausdurchsuchungen durchzuführen. Bei unserem Genossen Tadej Kurepa wollten sie ohne gültigen Durchsuchungsbefehl in die Wohnung eindringen. Tadej verweigerte dies und wurde von der Polizei "gebeten" auf die Wache mitzukommen um dies dort zu Protokoll zu geben. Statt des angekündigten Protokolls wurde er auf der Polizeistation festgenommen. In der Wohnung unseres Genossen Ratibor Trivunac konnte eine Hausdurchsuchung ebenfalls nicht durchgeführt werden, da Ratibor nicht zuhause war. Er wurde von der Polizei angerufen auf die Polizeistation zu kommen um ein Protokoll zu machen. Dort wurde er dann ebenfalls festgenommen. Noch bedenklicher wurde die Vorgangsweise bei Ivan Vulovic.

Representatives and breaucrates of multinational capitalist companies will be in İstanbul in 6 – 7 October for the annual meeting of the World Bank and the IMF (International Money Foundation) where they will make decisions to blacken billions of people’s lives.

Another peak gathering to protect the benefits of capitalist sovereigns, where economic packages which have no other use than adding another ring to the exploitation chain for poor billions and for the future of the planet that we live on, reconstructions and austerity policies, constitutional accordance conditions will be discussed…

Trials of the three remaining arrestees from the anti-G20 demonstrations in Melbourne 2006 will begin on June 30 at the Melbourne Magistrate's Court. We urge people to come to Melbourne to show their support and political solidarity to the arrestees.

These trials do not mark the first of such kind, but more importantly, they do not mark the last. We need to build a strong culture of providing meaningful political solidarity to those targeted by the state.

Im Juli wird das neue “Mehrjahresprogramm für Justiz und Inneres” der EU festgelegt, das im Dezember endgültig verabschiedet werden soll

Nach Tampere 1999 und Den Haag 2004 soll unter diesjähriger schwedischer EU-Präsidentschaft ein neues “Mehrjahresprogramm” zur Zukunft europäischer Innenpolitik der nächsten fünf Jahre beschlossen werden ( “Quantensprünge” europäischer Sicherheitszusammenarbeit (1)). Während die Richtlinien des Haager Programms (2) in den meisten EU-Mitgliedsstaaten ratifiziert worden sind (darunter Vorratsdatenspeicherung, Schaffung von Frontex, Interoperabilität von Datenbanken, mehr Kompetenzen für Europol etc.), soll im neuen “Stockholm Programm” wieder der “Kampf gegen Terrorismus und organisierte Kriminalität” Pate stehen für den Ausbau polizeilicher, militärischer und geheimdienstlicher Zusammenarbeit und die Implementierung neuer technischer Maßnahmen zur Überwachung und Kontrolle.

On November 15th the leaders of the of the 20 most powerful economies met in Washington D.C. for the “G-20 Leaders Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy.” Responding to the financial crisis. A variety of organizations in D.C. assembled under the name Global Justice Action organized a three-day weekend of events across in and out of the streets.

How sustained economic upheaval could put political regimes at risk

Popular anger around the world is growing as a result of rising unemployment, pay cuts and freezes, bail-outs for banks, and falls in house prices and the value of savings and pension funds. The extent and speed with which the global crisis has intensified, with much of the global economy slowing dramatically in the final quarter of 2008, has been a major shock.

Two more protesters were found not guilty Thursday in St. Paul after a four-day jury trial. Ilana M. Radovsky and Gracia Logue-Sargeant were arrested on September 1, the first day of the RNC, at Seventh and Jackson in downtown St. Paul. (That’s the same place where Democracy Now producers were arrested.) They were charged with parading without a permit, disorderly conduct, and unlawful assembly. Judge Michael Fetsch dismissed the parading charges, and the jury found them not guilty of the other two counts.

*Police brutality march: $200,000 in damages*

Rocks, bottles and tear gas flew, and police cracked down Sunday during the annual march against police brutality, arresting 221 people.

Police estimated that protesters caused $200,000 in damage to store windows, cars and police cars.

Two police officers were slightly injured in the protest that began about 2 p.m. at the Mont Royal métro station and wound through streets downtown.

Wearing pictures of slain Fredy Villanueva and carrying signs asking, “Who will protect us from the police?” several hundred people – many wearing masks – marched through the Plateau Mont Royal and downtown, disrupting traffic and throwing food and other objects at police.

Repression has no place in our boat…

In the last few years the island of Lesvos has represented one of the main entrance gate for thousands of refugees and migrants seeking to reach Europe. Packed in tiny plastic boats they try to cross the sea border between Turkey and Greece but some of them can’t make it. More than 1.100 migrants and refugees have lost their lives that way in Aegean sea the last 20 years.
The Hellenic Coast Guard, following the european and greek policies of “prevention of entrance” violates the rights of the refugees and put their lives in danger. At the same time, though, its activities are supported by Frontex, whose first boat started operating on the island in July 2008. Recently Frontex’s officials started interviewing / investigating refugees and migrants in Pagani (Lesvos).

EU member states are "intensively" monitoring the risk of spreading civil unrest in Europe, as riots over the economic crisis erupt in Iceland following street clashes in Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Greece.

The worst street disturbances for 50 years struck Reykjavik on Thursday (22 January), as police streamed a hardcore of a few hundred anti-government protesters in the early morning with pepper spray and then tear gas after an earlier crowd of around 2,000 gathered outside the Althingi, the country's parliament, to demand the government resign.

The crowds surrounded the building while banging pots and pans and shooting off fireworks. The demonstrators also lobbed paving stones, rolls of toilet paper and shoes.

Auf der Veranstaltung sind Aktivist_innen verschiedener Gruppen des anarchistischen Spektrums aus Thessaloniki und Athen. Sie haben sich an den militanten Protesten nach dem Mord an Alexis beteiligt, in diesem Rahmen verschiedene Orte und Universitäten besetzt und berichten über die Ereignisse und die aktuelle Situation der politischen Interventionen, neue Besetzungen, Aktionen und inhaltliche Debatten. Dazu zählt die Situation der Gefangenen und die aktuelle Repression, die Bildungsmisere, die kapitalistische Krise und die Prekarität, der Angriff auf die Migrantin und Gewerkschafterin Konstantina Kouneva, die Situation von Migrant_innen im staatlichen Rassismus, das Verhältnis zu den Medien und Analysen zur Revolte aus anarchistischer Perspektive.

Ein Aufruf aus Griechenland zur internationalen Solidarität

Eine Bande an Politikern und Jornalisten schwärmen herum und versuchen sich unsere Bewegung zu nutze zu machen und ihr ihre eigne Rationalität aufzudrängen. Sie sagen, dass wir rebellieren, weil unsere Regierung korrupt ist oder weil wir mehr Geld und mehr Arbeit von ihr bekommen wollen. Falsch.
Wenn wir Banken zerstören, dann darum, weil wir in ihrem Geld einen Hauptgrund unserer Traurigkeit erkennen. Wenn wir die Schaufenster der Läden zertrümmern, ist es nicht weil das Leben teuer ist, sondern weil uns die Güter selbst am Leben hindern, unabhängig von ihrem Preis.
Wenn wir die polizeilichen Formationen angreifen, dann nicht nur um unseren toten Kameraden zu rächen, sondern weil sie zwischen der Welt und der Welt, wie wir sie uns wünschen, immer ein Hindernis sein werden.

Am Samstag den 6. Dezember wurde der 15jährige Alexandros Grigoropoulos von einem Polizisten in Athen erschossen. Der Tod von Alexandros fand vor dem Hintergrund zahlreicher politischer Auseinandersetzungen statt. Der größte Teil der griechischen Gefangenen befand sich bis vor kurzem in einem Hungerstreik für bessere Haftbedingungen. An den Universitäten und Schulen des Landes brodelt die Unruhe gegen ein marodes Bildungssystem und am Mittwoch fand ein schon länger angesetzter Generalstreik gegen die Politik der Regierung statt. Von der Vollversammlung des besetzten Polytechnikums in Athen wurde nun für den 20. Dezember in Erinnerung an den in Genua erschossenen Carlo Juliani, die französischen Jugendunruhen in den Banlieues und alle anderen Betroffenen von staatlicher Gewalt zu einem internationalen Aktionstag gegen staatliche Morde aufgerufen.

Griechische Krawalle greifen auf Europa über. Autonome werden online mobilisiert. Von Istanbul bis New York haben sich tausende Anarchisten zu Solidaritäts-Kundgebungen zusammengefunden.

Wien/ Athen. Ein tödlicher Schuss aus der Dienstwaffe eines Polizisten hat genügt, um in Griechenland Chaos auszulösen. Plötzlich brannten Mülltonnen, Autos und Geschäfte. Zehntausende Gewaltbereite gehen gegen Polizei, Regierung und den Staat auf die Straße.

Doch rasch ist das griechische Phänomen zum internationalen geworden: Von Istanbul bis New York haben sich tausende Anarchisten zu Solidaritätskundgebungen zusammengefunden. In Madrid und Barcelona wurden elf Randalierer festgenommen, nachdem sie Steine gegen Banken und Polizeistationen geschleudert hatten. Auch in Rom, Sofia, Kopenhagen und Bordeaux kam es zu Protesten.

Die Zügellosigkeit der Polizei

Leider kam der bestialische Mord an Alexis Grigoropoulos nicht wie ein Blitz aus heiterem Himmel. Er war kaltblütig, widersinnig und vollkommen grundlos; trotzdem war es ein “Tod mit Ansage”, unabhängig davon, was bisher von dem Mörder-Bullen und seinem Verteidiger-Paten gesagt wird. Und zwar deshalb, weil die Hand des Mörders geführt wurde von der verbreiteten, ungestraften und legalisierten Polizeigewalt der letzten Jahren gegen Migranten, Drogenabhängige, Roma und “lebenslustige” Jugendliche. Sie wurde bewaffnet von der allgemein eingeführten Polizeiherrschaft, der Verfestigung des polizeilichen Kannibalismus und der Figur des Rambo-Bullen, der stolz darauf ist, wie viele Migranten er geschlagen und wie viele Fixer er erniedrigt hat.

Today (Friday), the assembly of the occupied Athens Polytechnic decided to make a callout for European and global-wide actions of resistance in the memory of all assassinated youth, migrants and all those who were struggling against the lackeys of the state.

Our lives do not belong to the states and their assassins!

The memory of the assassinated brothers and sisters, friends and comrades stays alive through our struggles!

We do not forget our brothers and sisters, we do not forgive their murderers.
