As opposed to various reports the financial result of the Anti G8 kitchens that they have broken even.
Due to a great willingness to donate money by people in the Anti G8 camps and on the blockades, there are even surpluses that can be donated to legal and prisoner support around the mobilisation.
According to a report in the tageszeitung (taz) on the 12th June 2007, the particpating kitchens are said to have suffered a loss of 15,000 euros. These numbers, however, are based on the temporary estimates of some kitchens at the last day of the camps, that can now, after many calculations, be definitely proven not to be the case from the kitchen finance co-ordinating group.
We regret that this creates the impression that the principle of running the kitchens by donations could not work and cover the costs. However it is now apparent, that it is actually possible even over a longer period of time to cook tasty organic vegan and partly vegetarian food for a large number of people on a self organised basis and distribute it just for donations.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the many helpers and people willing to make donations. It was especially nice to see the collection of donations on the blockades, which can be regarded as a testimony to the success of self organisation. It was also great how responsible people were with the crockery and cutlery provided by the kitchens, that would always find its way back to the kitchens.
As a part of the autonomous protest camps, we hereby thank everyone who helped build up this remarkable infrstructure, and therefore actively realised an organisational philosophy based on decentralisation and autonomy.
The camp and blockade kitchens were organised by altogether nearly 20 different cooking collective – here is an incomplete list:
